I have always wanted to develop an iOS app. A couple of years ago, I started to learn Objective-C, which was a beast coming from a procedural background primarily with dabbling in Java and Javascript. I coded two apps (Exotic Animal TPR and AV Screen Calculator), but never did anything with them and let my Apple Developer license lapse. Then last month, I got bitten by the Swift bug. If you are not familiar with Swift, it is Apple’s new development language. For some reason, I began watching Simon Allardice on Lynda.com and digesting his two courses — Swift Essential Training and iOS App Development with Swift Essential Training. I immediately started to gobble these lessons up. I thenĀ attempted to swing to Stanford University’s Developing iOS 8 Aoos with Swift on iTunes U. That was a bit much to digest. Not giving up though, I began looking for alternative educational sources… I needed to code something in Swift. Then it hit me — why not try to code my games that I am designing. It would be a good way to expedite playtesting and at least see my visions come to life. Hence, I searched and found several YouTube movies and websites on the topic. Now, I am learning how to code the basics in gaming and hope that takes me to my first application on the app store.
